Cape Le Grand National Park:

Wild coastal scenery, rugged granite peaks and sweeping heath lands characterize the Cape Le Grand National Park. In the south west corner of the park massive rock outcrops of granite and gneiss form an impressive chain of peaks. These were mainly submerged under the sea 40 million years ago and caves and tunnels are found in the
peaks formed by wave action and underwater current.

We camped right near the Le Grand beach in the National Park. Each caravan had its own little bay which was surrounded by bushes. A short path took us down to the beach. The sand is very fine and very white.

I can say to you that this is honestly the bluest water I have ever seen and the beach has one of the whitest sands in the world. It is so white it is glary. What an amazing part of Australia this is.

We spent the day relaxing and exploring the beach. It was fairly windy and unfortunately too cold for a swim.

The next day was beautiful so we went for a drive through some heath land as well as some thickets of banksias,to some more lovely bays with rocky outcrops. These included Thistle Cove and the Whistling Rock which makes a whistling noise as the wind blows.
Thistle Cove is a sheltered little beach.

We called into Hellfire Bay which has also beautiful turquiose water. There was a lovely paved walk way down to the beach and some large white flowering bushes lined the path.

Then onto Lucky Bay where there was another camping area and although this was beautiful we thought our beach
and camping area was nicer. This is a bay that Matthew Flinders sheltered in for six days on his voyage around Australia. There are lots of islands scattered in the bay.

On our way back we had a good view of Frenchman’s Peak with is caves and hollows. You can climb this but it was very steep so didn’t try this.
When we came back to the campsite we went for a drive along the beach. It was very hard so was easy to drive on.
We really enjoyed the beauty of this area which we had heard so much about.
